Sponsorship: Boogertman + Partners Head Office

The interior scheme of Boogertman + Partners’ new Johannesburg office, in the Main Straight Office Park in Bryanston, received a 5-Star Interiors rating on round 1 of its Green Star submission thanks to a number of innovative green design features.

Smita Waghmarae, Interior Architect at Boogertman, says, “The design concept was to create a multifunctional, sustainable, industrial, flexible, playful office, which supported the different workspaces required by our multidisciplinary architectural firm.

“Because of the industrial, open-plan nature of the spaces, acoustics played an important part in the choice of materials, as did sustainability – in keeping with the firm’s ethos of creating a workplace that supports the wellbeing of its staff.”

These factors influenced the selection of Shaw Contract’s ReThink woven luxury vinyl tile, sponsored, supplied and installed by Pentafloor. The product, in colours ‘Core’ and ‘Hybrid’, was applied on both floors and walls covering a total area of 200sqm.

“This product speaks to the overall design concept as it is texturally rich, which adds a unique, fresh dynamic to our walls and floors,” Waghmarae comments. “The sustainability of the product was a huge plus, added to the fact that it is truly durable, easy to clean and doesn’t fray. The service experienced from Pentafloor was of a high quality and very satisfactory.”

Weaving the boundary between hard and soft, ReThink combines hard surface durability with soft surface aesthetics. As a woven textile LVT (luxury vinyl tile), ReThink focuses on the structure of the fabric combining utilitarian purpose and textile appeal. Shaw Contract’s exclusive ExoGuard™ quartz enhanced urethane finish creates a barrier on top making cleaning easier, and a fused surface to help prevent fraying.

“Shaw is committed to the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard, which looks at a product through five quality categories — namely, material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness,” says Larry Shakinovsky of Pentafloor. “In addition, Shaw’s commitment to transparency and material health complement the philosophy of the WELL Building Standard, which is gaining traction worldwide in terms of prioritising occupant health and wellbeing.”

As one of Africa’s leading design practices, Boogertman’s choice of floor and wall finishes for its own office is a testimony to the superb quality of commercial materials offered by Shaw Contract through Pentafloor.
